What do you do when you have to choose between what is “right” and what is “good”? Maybe your boss wants you to fudge on the expense report. Perhaps your accountant says you would save a lot on taxes if you did not claim that extra income. It really won’t hurt anyone, and it is just a “little white lie.” Right? When you are tempted, remember three things from Daniel 3.
Remember the DEMAND (vv.1-15). The Babylonian king makes a tower and demands all to fall down and worship. When it is reported that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego did not, they are given another demand to. The world and Satan are relentless. Turn down temptation, and another one is around the corner. That is why we must be vigilant (I Peter 5:8).
Remember the DEDICATED (vv.16-18). Though their position, their work, even their very life was threatened, the three men stood firm. They were confident God could deliver them. However, if He chose not to, they were fine with that also. We must not just be faithful when religion that will benefit us. We must be convicted that God knows best and trust Him.
Remember the DEFENDER (vv. 19-30). When the three men are thrown into the furnace, the Babylonian looks in and sees four. In the king’s eyes, the fourth appears to be a divine being. When the three come out, they not only are unburnt, they do not even smell like smoke. They had realized what we must - when we walk with God, we are never alone!
Every day we must make tough choices. Will we do what is best for God, or for me? Will I seek His will or my own? What will we do we have to make the decision between right and good. It may be the good thing for me, but is it right in the sight of God, and according to His word? When the demands of the world are put on us, may we be dedicated to our defender, and serve only Him!
