Actions have consequences. We ought to be motivated based on what the consequences of our action will be. Maybe we will refrain from doing something because of the bad consequences. Maybe we are eager to do something because of the blessing that comes with it. We might think of this as an “if – then” arrangement. If this is true and offers these blessing then what are the consequences if these actions are not done? Let’s apply this formula to the subject of baptism. What blessings come to one who is baptized? What are the consequences if one is not baptized?
If when one is baptized one….
Is saved from past sins. “He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved…” Mark 16:16.
Has his sins washed away. “Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins” Acts 22:16.
Enters Christ. “All of us who have been baptized into Christ” Romans 6:3.
Is clothed with Christ. “For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ” Galatians 3:27.
Enters the church. “We were all baptized into one body” (church, Ephesians 1:22-23).
Then the opposite of theses is true if one is not baptized.
One is not saved from past sins.
One has not had his sins washed away.
One is not in Christ.
One has not clothed himself/herself with Christ.
One is not part of the church.
